At the end of the 8th Pass, there came an event which would change the face of Pern forever. Known by later generations as the UpheavaI, over several generations, a great change occurred in the dragons and their kin. Massive greens began to hatch who were unable to chew firestone and tiny golds who proved to be fighters. By the time it was over, every rank had changed position, and several new colours had come into being. So thorough were the changes, that riders and dragons alike began to think of themselves using new names.
Pern enjoyed it's peace for 450 long, prosperous turns. The Red Star is fast approaching, but the Holds have turned a blind eye to it's approach. They have grown resentful of their once protectors, many seeing them as a burden. For the past few decades, the weyrs have resorted to kidnapping in order to have enough candidates to present to their clutches. In retaliation, many of the holds have begun to send the worst of the harvest as tithe, or not send the tithe at all. The result; two Weyrs remain on Pern. High Reaches Weyr keeps to itself, refusing to help even the most desperate of pleas from Sabishi Weyr which has been left to it's own devices, barely clinging to it's position in the world.
Sabishi is struggling, and Thread will soon return. Will the weyr save itself, and thus all of Pern, soaring high on dragon wings? Or will the whole world crash and burn in a blaze of dragonfire?
