Natsumi had been feeling out of sorts again, being scolded - once more - by the Captain and told what a drain she was on the resources. The fact that she felt completely the opposite, didn't change things... And mentioning it did nothing to improve the Captain's mood. And to be honest, Natsumi was tired of trying to prove herself to him...she knew...she would never be one of his 'successes' - She was not a fighter. She wanted to be a healer.
However, tonight the scolding had seemed to bother her more than usual, and she went to find one of two people who could always make her feel better, in tonight's case, it was her darling little sister, who always seemed to know how to bring a smile to her big sister's face.
She went into the mess hall and called out. "Is the cutest little sister in the universe here?"

Pots clattered as Liling was busy whipping up her latest creation. Her arms felt heavier than usual as the captain added in extra weight. It made cooking a little more difficult. She was in the mood to try something a little sweeter. An appetizer that was a little on the savory side of things as well. It was a play on flavors that she enjoyed.
She heard the voice of her sister call out. While they had never been too close growing up, it was hard to avoid her when in a small space station. She still found it interesting that they were exact opposites even after the death of their mother. She made the effort to at least be overly nice to her sister.
She knew that she would never hide from anyone as people could find her here. It gave her a sense of normalcy. It kept her skills sharp when she was not training to be a Shadowdancer.
"By the stove, Nats, my dearest older sister. You hungry?"

She walked in smilingly and ruffled her sister's hair. "Almost always.... but mostly I'm here for the company..."
She sat on a stool in the kitchen and watched her younger sister go to work. "Ne... Liling...do you mind me...visiting you here? I want us to get closer. I need you more....now that it's just the two of us. And...I know..I'll never make the grade...at least not with the Captain. I know..there are many who think, I'm not cut out to follow in Mom's shoes...."
She then stopped herself and sighed. "Sorry...I had a sudden emo break out. It's just... Liling... I really need a sister now, more than ever."

Liling cracked her neck a little as she her hair was ruffled. She brushed the loose threads from her eyes as she watched her sister out of the corner of her eye. She tossed some nuts on the stove as she stirred a sauce. It was far from what she was used to however she made it work. She would like to think that her mentors would be proud.
"Well I can give some company as long as I can keep working."
She glanced in the oven with a sigh. The cake looks to be slowly raising, just not where it should be. She checked the next one over as the meat of some kind looked to be caramelizing nicely. She looked at her sister as she stood up. She could relate, in a sense, to what her sister was feeling. It almost felt like the shoe was falling on the other foot.
"Nats, lets be honest, you and I were never close while growing up. At first, I was hurt when Mom came to see once in awhile. She was always busy making sure you could follow her footsteps. I was more of the forgotten child. As for filling Mom's shoes, I think you can and will in your own way. Gods know that I am not cut out for that. I am more of a back seat kinda gal. None of this has been what our parents wanted for us."
She gave a quick toss and stir before she walked over to where her older sister was sitting. She placed a hand on Nats shoulder with a smile. "You and Chi are the one and the same. I think you just need to find your niche with the group. I do think you helping with the medical stuff is useful. Let's face it, some of our team need a little extra TLC like William or Ryuusei. Not everyone is a fighter which is fine as there are plenty of roles to fill. My gift has just been taking to the next level with the captain, doesn't mean I don't always enjoy taking a life needlessly."

Natsumi listened to her little sister. It was true...she felt more and more sad that they hadn't been closer as children, and Natsumi couldn't run away from partial responsibility for that.
"I want us to...try to be closer now. I hope it's not too late for me to make up for what I didn't do in the past. I always did love you, I....I am just lousy at showing it at times."
She paused as the girl continued to talk about strengths and such. "I suppose... everyone in their place. I hope I can continue to be where I'm needed, when I'm needed. Mama always worried about me getting caught up with the wrong path..."

Liling tossed the nuts on the stove around a little more as her sister mentioned being closer to one another. She stir the sauce as mixed feelings bubbled under the surface. On one hand, she did want to get to know her sister a little more. After all, they were the last of royal family just like the rest. She always heard that family should stick together.
On the other hand,Natsumi could have made more of an effort to see her when their mother came to visit. Natsumi used the excuse that she had lots of lessons or meetings or whatever going on. She was left on her own. Her passion for cooking came from that. When she was younger, she dreamed of cooking a meal that the family would be able to come together for. Relationships would be patched up and they would be one. Her dream was dashed when her family didn't come to Junior Master Chef final. It was the day in which she felt let down and unimportant. She wanted to prove to the others that she could forge her own path.
She looked at her sister with a shrug. "And I love you, to a point. It hurt that I rarely saw you, even more so when no came to the Finale of the biggest cooking show. I realized at that point, I would always live in your shadow, I highly doubt you would ever have gone down the wrong path."
She took in a deep breath before continuing. "We can get to know one another. I doubt we will ever be super close. Most likely, friends which hopefully you can live with."

OOC A little saddened by this, as I don't know why my girl didn't go to the chef thing. I didn't design Natsumi as a selfish girl...but the background story has made her this. Hearing this tore Natsumi's heart. She had less control over her life than her little sister knew...and she had no idea how much she did think of her and love her. Natsumi sighed. "I'm sorry...that's all I can say... if I could undo the past, I would...I would give anything...anything at all to make it up to you. I mean that. I never wanted anyone in my shadow....I didn't ask for what I got..it was thrust at me.... if I could give it all away...just to be your loving big sister, I would....anything at all...." She looked down... "I never meant to slight you, or ignore you... I hope you know that...I was always asking Mom about you...always..."

OOC: It was more of their mother keeping Natsumi busy. I designed Liling to be more background in the royal family. This will help patch things up.
Liling felt her shoulders sag as she heard from her sister. The apology pulled at her heart strings as she rubbed her nose. She just felt like she took second place. Her nanny was more of a mother than their actual one. It could be that she had also grown up faster than the other children her age. She tossed the nuts a little more, unsure of how to respond to her sister.
"We can't help what either one of us had to deal with. Past is the past. Honestly, I am over it now. I have known where I stood and I am fine with that. In a strange way, it has made me stronger. Even gave me a gift that the captain has trained me with."
She turned down the stove for just a moment as she came around the counter. She bit her lip as she looked at her sister. Her arms came around as she gave her sister a huge hug. She wrinkled her nose for a moment as she sighed.
"Let's just make this a fresh start, okay? We leave the past were it is. There is nothing we can do about it now."
