Chi felt her cheeks warm when she heard the familiar voice. She had been so wrapped up in what she was doing that the girl snuck up on her talking to the older ship. She cleared her throat as she gave a nervous laugh at the comment made by Sakuya.
"Well if I don't listen, how am I going to know when something is wrong."
She often would talk to her ship as well as the Black Swan. She often felt as if the ships might be her only friends. The secrets they knew about her or how many times she cried while huddled under a bulkhead. They didn't pass judgement only if she neglected them. Which she never did!
"The secrets they would tell you . I'm strange since this is the spot where I would rather be most of the time. You could almost say they know more about me than anyone on the station."
She pushes the slight down note out of her voice. She smiled as she looked at her friend. "I could give you lessons if you ever want to learn. Hayate and William are okay though I am better than they are, if I do say so myself. Or at least that is what everyone tends to tell me. And yeah, I have to come. I get to run the secondary systems since I have not had a full night's rest."

Jacob had returned to the hanger leaving Mizuki and Alex to their business. He knew that Ryuusei would either follow the rules or he wouldn’t, either way, that was his choice to make. He was thinking if he should take Chi with him while they were covered by the twin as he walked into the hanger and then onto the Swan he heard the tail end of Chi talking to Sakuya about herself and the station.
“Nah that’s not true. I know a few things about you.”
He tossed her the sidearm that she didn’t go and get with a slight frown but it quickly turned up. He sighed as he looked around the Swan and sighed. It had been his home for so long. He sat down and looked at them.
“You know ladies this ship has seen me at my best and my worst. If you’ll give me a moment I’ll be right back.”
He went into the rear and came back forward with a sword. He showed it to them and they would notice the symbol of Venus had been set into the hilt. His eyes softened and he set it between the two of them.
“You know what that is ladies?”
They were princesses and they would recognize sword only given to those who earned the title First Sword of Venus. It was an honor that only three had earned.
“I’ll tell you that I don’t know what I did to earn that I was just soldiering like I’ve done all my life. She said I earned it. That soldiers like me don’t come along every century unless your a Senshi. I didn’t argue I just said yes ma’am and carried one with my day.”
He smiled as he looked like he was remembering something that seemed hard to think about.
“Anyways ladies when your done looking at it put it back in the living room in the back. It’s a piece of history I suppose. It well anyways....I suppose fuck all if I had stayed I’d be dead too. Well I have some of the best soldiers I have trained.”
That was downright misty eyed for Jacob as he rose up and went into the back to grab his tac gear. He came back forward and was in the process of putting it on. He tossed Sakuya what looked like a hooded pancho. He tossed the spare tac gear he kept on board for Chi.
“Active camo for you Sakuya. I’d hate for you to be spotted while you are watching from the distance.”
He looked at Chi and motioned her to get in it.
“As soon as our pilots return we will be off.”

Chi caught her side arm as it was tossed to her. She had meaning to go get it after she finished getting the ship all ready. She felt that it was her duty as other two had ran off. She placed it on her side as she smiled at the captain.
"I never said you didn't, sir. The ship just knows way more."
It was nice to see the captain a little more relaxed. It gave her a sense of ease before they were heading off into the unknown. She looked at the sword that was set between them. Her eyes widen for a moment as he told a little story with it. She knew that their parents were particular when they handed out high honors such as this. If the queen of Venus felt that he had earned it than he did even if he didn't know what for. She watched his face as a thousand of questions ran through her mind. She knew better than to ask any of them. It would be questions that never really got answered. She felt her cheeks warm at what she guessed was a compliment for all of them. She didn't really feel all that included though.
She caught her trac gear as she rose. She nodded her head as the moment past. It was odd for him to be so sentimental. Part of her wondered if something happened this morning between him and Setsuna. It was something that pushed out of her mind as it was ridiculous to think about. They fought like cats and dogs almost every day.
"Aye, aye sir." She headed to the back to change.

Soft footsteps walked into the ship. Setsuna was amused that the captain brought out his sword. She might have guessed that he brings it everywhere with him. It could be his lucky charm. She was not one to judge others superstitions. She nodded her head to Sakuya.
She stood an arm's length of a yeti away from him. She would hate to sour his almost good mood. She handed him her findings in person. It would be a list of the most likely senerios. Little events did not effect the timeline overall, however they needed the parts. It would mostly ensure that they would succeed. She didn't want them to go in completely blind. Her presence would have complicated the mission. It was better to keep everyone safe.
"For your reading enjoyment."
Once he had taken it, she walked back of the ship. There was something else that needed her attention.

Hayate had stopped somewhere personal. The mission was likely going to take awhile, so it was prudent to use the restroom while she still could. With that taken care of and with all her gear in her possession, the elder Tenoh made her way to the hangar.
She raced past Setsuna. What was she doing here? That did not matter now. What mattered was that William got here in time.
Practically jumping on board the Black Swan, she greeted Chisana and the others.
"Hi Chisana, hi Captain. What did I miss?" Hayate asked everyone present.

William was running. He had ducked into the bathroom because he had consumed too much coffee earlier. After that stop, he was ready to go. He had all his gear.
William sprinted past a green-haired woman and nearly ran into the ship because he turned his head to look at her. Setsuna? What was she doing here? He thought she was off in Fantasyland with the holograms.
Stopping just in time to avoid slamming into the front of the ship, William sheepishly walked over to the entrance and climbed on. Or, he would have if Hayate's backside were not in the way.
"Hey Hayate, do you mind moving over a bit? Your butt's in the way." William requested.

"What? Oh, sorry William!" Hayate exclaimed before obliging and moving over so that the other pilot could board. She was preoccupied. She was going to pilot this thing. Lives would depend on her, but thankfully Chisana and Jacob were nearby if they needed to take over.
That should not be necessary. Hayate had this. It was a big, stealthy spaceship, but she could fly it.

"Thanks Hayate." William said after Hayate obligingly moved to the side. He got a good look at what he would be flying. All systems were green. It had sufficient fuel for the trip plus extra as a safety net should things get hectic.
It was extensively modified, but it was not likely to beat a starfighter in a race. It would have to rely on maneuvering and use of terrain to evade pursuers. It could also do with an autocannon. However, that was just William's opinion.
"So, is all of the team present and accounted for? Are we ready to take off yet?" William asked Jacob.

Sakuya observed the sword in complete silence. She knew what this was, and she knew it was given to the few who were deemed worthy. Jacob, her mentor, the guy who was like an older brother to her, was one of them. Beyond proud, she tried to kept her emotions in check. She failed of course, giving a warm smile before it was placed back in the living room. She noticed Jacob’s eyes, but said nothing. She could only imagine what he had seen. The joy, the sorrow and the accomplishments that he held on his shoulders. She admired him greatly, and only hoped to be half the warrior he was.
Turning, she gave a nod “Yes sir, I’ll get my gear on right away.” She said quickly as she disappeared, appearing in just a matter of minutes. Her long hair remained in the side braid; it was easier to work in. Looking to Chi, she couldn’t help but smile “And you wonder why I spend so much time staring out into space in in that bay window of my room? My heart belongs out there. In the stars.” She smiled sweetly “I’m all set!”
Looking to the others and nodding back to Setsuna, she felt the strap of her sniper rifle, feeling the instant comfort it brought her. She giggled to Hayate and William. “Let’s get this show on the road.” She responded in just above an excited whisper. She loved these missions. She loved haunting those who deserved it.

"Well, if everyone's ready to go, we'll get going. The meter's running." Hayate said as she hopped into a pilot's seat and began checking the systems. There was fuel. The engines were functional. The electronics were functioning. The sensors were operational.
"Hey William! Get over here! There's another seat!" Hayate shouted at her brother. She could not fly this thing on her own. She would need his help.

William silently jumped into the other pilot seat. He noticed that all the systems were green. He raised the landing gear. He turned on the speaker.
"You guys back there might wanna sit down and buckle up. Things can get choppy." William suggested before flipping the speaker off. He then began requesting clearance to takeoff. Seconds later it was granted. Time to let the passengers know.
"OK everyone, this thing's about to get in motion. Please secure all weapons now." William suggested again. He waited a full minute before Hayate looked at him. Time was up.
"OK, we're taking off now. Hope you're sitting down and buckled." William said before doing one last check. Everything was still green.
"All right Hayate, we're on the clock now. We really shouldn't keep the captain waiting. Let's get going." He said to his sister. Outer space beckoned. The Black Swan was about to answer the call.

Jacob was ready to go and went forward into the pilots compartment and waited while the Tenoh’s finished up their preflight checks. Once they had requested permission to depart and Jallia granted it he nodded to them.
“You both recall the path out of here or do I have to have Chi so this part?”
He laughed as the path out of here could get a bit dicey. The gravitational pull of all the black holes was a bit hard to navigate but he had trained all qualified pilots to be able to traverse dangerous path with ease.
“Oh don’t scratch the paint job. It’s painful to mix it up and apply. Let’s go.”
He didn’t want to tell them they would have to use the only navcomp that required pilot input. He wanted to see how well they had paid attention. That was the best part about this.
“Once you clear the Maw set the jump to slipspace to end half a lightyear short so we can go stealth and drop our ghost a kilometer out from the meeting zone. Then I want you to drop me half a kilometer from the meeting and go VTOL as it minimizes our heat signature and stay stealth until the meeting is over. Once it ends retrieve Sakuya first then me. Any questions?”
He was expendable but wouldn’t ever tell them that. The most important thing was them. He looked over the note and nodded.

Hayate began taking them out of the Dark Echoes and into space. The path through The Maw would be a treacherous one. One false move and into a black hole they would go.
Hayate had this.
She looked down at the navigational computer. She did a double take. Did it really require pilot input?
"A navcomp that needs pilot input? I thought those were phased out several decades ago. Well, it'll do the trick." Hayate said before she and William began navigating The Maw. It sounded like a Z-grade sci-fi movie creature, but it was no laughing matter. There was no telling how many ships made a mistake and ended up being drawn into an inescapable black hole.
"Halfway there." Hayate informed the passengers. The Tenoh siblings navigated with care. It was not just their lives at risk. The lives of Jacob, Chisana, and Sakuya were also at risk.
"Almost there." Hayate droned. Just a few seconds more. They were passing around the last of the black holes. They almost seemed like they were attempting to reach out for the Black Swan. She held her breath.
"OK, we're clear of The Maw." Hayate said to the the passengers. The worst part was over. Everything after that would be a walk in the park for the experienced pilots.

William kept a straight face until the navcomp that needed pilot input was brought up. It was his turn to do a double take. What? Why did they have one of those?
"Well, you... you don't see manual navcomps everyday. The last time I saw one of those was when they were being phased out on Uranus. The Uranian Navy was upgrading to automated navcomps." William said diplomatically. He had to play it cool. Offending the captain was a good way to get a tour of space without the spacesuit or spaceship. William helped pilot the craft until they were clear of The Maw.
"OK. So we're gonna set the jump to slipspace to end half a lightyear short so we can go stealth and drop Sakuya a kilometer out from the meeting zone. Then we drop the captain half a kilometer from the meeting and go VTOL to minimize our heat signature and stay stealth until the meeting is over. Then when it's over, pick up Sakuya then the captain." William repeated to Hayate. The repetition was probably not needed. He did it to show that he could pay attention when it counted.
"Well, time to put this plan into motion." William said as he input the coordinates and set the slipspace jump to end half a lightyear short. He had some experience with the old tech, but Hayate was better with it. She had actually used it in the field while under Conrad's tutelage. William would defer to her.
"Hayate, when you get a second, check the coordinates for me. We need to get this right the first time." William requested.

Chi listened as the Tenoh siblings were ready to take off. She knew that if anything went wrong, she would take their place. She had hope that they would have taken the time to talk with her. She had more hours in this ship than she cared to admit as it was what she learned to fly in. She also knew that they were also in a rush.
She took her seat by the second systems as she waited for her turn. She turned her attention to Sakuya with a smile. It was nice to hear that someone else really enjoyed looking at the darkness around them.
"So flying lessons after the mission and some sleep? I don't mind at all. Or you can just ride along as I test out after a little bit of maintenance with my little ship. It would be fun for just the two of us."
Her ship was little, though not as fast as the other two. It was just right for her as it got her out of a few scraps. There was nothing like a trip her ship and the openness around her. There was a reason she called it Freedom.
