Her mind felt as if everything was still in a fog from the discussion over breakfast. Details were all clumped together. For her, she knew what her task was, flying. She wiped her palms on her pants as she did her preflight check once again. She needed to make sure that their passage would be as smooth as possible.
She did the math for the trips back and forth as well as lots of fancy flying. She wanted to make sure they were prepared for almost anything. She went through her checklist after dragging out the hose for the fuel. She placed a hand on the hull of her ship. She remembered when the captain forced to her to get one. It was tricked out with the latest technology. It had gotten them out of a tough scrapes before, and would again. She took in a deep breath as she melted herself into the outside. She was going to be one with the ship as always.
Her sense of peace over took her as she knew the ship was something she could always count on. There was comfort in knowing she would never be judged for being who she was. Her full attention was on what needed to get done. She did her walk around the outside of the ship testing the wings, inspecting the engines, looking for cracks on the window. Everything seemed to be in order. She would have to request some repair equipment for minor things. She wanted to keep things that way.
She unhooked the hose when it was done filling the tanks. She hook the hose up for the others to use. She headed inside of her ship for the electrical elements as well as all the features that would keep them safe. She would not know when the others arrived in the hanger. She was engrossed in her job.

Breakfast is usually an occasion for greetings, fun loving discussions and enjoying the first meal of the day. Small talk, debates about bacon and how people are either obsessed with it, or to others, calling it over-rated. It was the type of food where you 'just add water', so the raven-haired girl saw no point to the mindless discussions, but seeing her friends debate was funny in any sense.
Breakfast was something to look forward to. Breakfast was relaxed and enjoyable.
Relaxed...
Enjoyable...
Sakuya stabbed her artificial eggs with her fork as the mission was introduced. Her senses went numb and soon all she could hear ere subtle sounds; voices went from speaking clearly to just versions of the words she was familiar to. Sounds trailed off into the background and soon nothing was intelligible. Her complexion was whiter than usual and her eyes were void of a personality. Everything went black. She didn't even remember walking back to her room to get ready. She barely remembered the other night with William. Did they...? Didn't they...? Her panicked state erased any happy memories from what she had before.
Once her orders were given, Sakuya became a soldier. She wasn't the fun-loving, sarcastic, quasi-promiscuous woman; she was now The Ghost, the deadliest sniper for her age and well known to those she'd made enemies with. Slipping her foot into the black pleather uniform that made eyes water, she breathed in softly while keeping track of how her body reacted to the news. Time was running out and they needed to get to Solaris. They wouldn't fail; they couldn't fail...
She reported to the hanger, ready for lift-off. Staring forward, one may think she was in a daze. She often stared into people while her mind ran through every possible scenario of the mission. Every loop, every wormhole. Every tiny detail needed to be on point.
She was alive. Solaris...was alive.

Ada wolfed down the synthetic eggs that tasted like rubber and rushed to her room to get her gear. She grabbed her pistol, her tac gear, her extra ammo, her SMG, and her medical bag stuffed with medical supplies. A combat medic was only as good as their supplies. Ada had the best that the Dark Echoes could provide... or that Jacob could buy, barter, or steal for the Dark Echoes. It was all the same to her.
She scrambled into the hangar and met up with Sakuya, who was getting ready for the mission. Ada had barely paid attention to the briefing because she was trying to figure out what in the name of Charles Babbage happened in the Medical Bay. There were a lot of unexplained noises and no source for them. The blue-haired girl was still puzzled by that.
"So, ready for action?" Ada tried to make awkward small talk with Sakuya. The daughter of Mercury was not very good at small talk. She had to have a point to the conversation whenever she talked to someone.

Alex had barely gotten through breakfast. She tolerated the rubber eggs and other synthetic fare because there was no other choice. She was more concerned about the mission. Alex rushed into the Tech Bay and into a special capsule of Ada's own design. She stood with her arms slightly out and the armor was placed onto her by mechanical arms. When it was finished, Alex was sporting gold armor with an opaque helmet. It looked vaguely medieval, but as long as it kept her alive she would wear it. It would be the very first field test of Ada's Cataphract Armor. Alex rushed to the armory and grabbed her custom LMG and plenty of ammo for it, including three stun belts because they were better than nothing in a fight. She would load them into boxes during the flight. She also grabbed a grenade launcher and a dozen grenades. Now that she was loaded for a whole forest of bears, she clomped towards the hangar. When she reached the hangar, she spotted Sakuya and Ada. "Hi guys. How does the armor look? Does it make me look fat?" Alex asked the pair through the helmet's voice amplification system.

Jacob had taken the time to review the transmissions that Neri had decided to upload to his terminal at 0400 after he had finished speaking with Setsuna. He reviewed the information and sent her the go ahead to plan the operation. He didn’t want to say no because destroying that prison ship would be a good morale boost and plus they got to blow shit up. He hoped her plan was solid if not they were going to have a hard time. He was going because he liked to watch. He walked into the hanger and pressed the comm button on the outside to signal Chi.
“Flight Officer Tsukino...”
She would have to answer him.
“....what is the debarkation time of this picnic?”
He would wait. They had time. After all when they got to the ship it was going to be one hell of a show.

The male voice cut into the task of Chi's. She took in a deep breath as she had to answer him. She had been avoiding most of the others since Yule. Too much had happened that night. She didn't need people seeing her as anything other than the happy go lucky girl.
She chewed her lip as she looked at her clipboard. She made a few mental calculations with what was left. She did pressed the button as she called back to him. "Sir, I am half way though my checklist. I would say about 20 minutes. I don't want to rush getting her into the air."

Hayate Tenoh changed into her flight suit and scrambled to the hangar. She was already late. The mission was going to need air support if it was going to succeed. Hayate scrambled into the hangar and rushed over to her custom starfighter named Hayabusa. She opened the cockpit and hastily climbed the ladder into the Hayabusa.
She quickly went through the preflight checks and waited for orders to take off. She wondered where William was. He should have been right behind her.

William dug himself out from under his pile of magazines and hastily put on his flight suit. He was with Sakuya last night but nothing had happened between them. Both of them were more than a bit toasted and all they did was talk about cheesy kung fu and sci-fi movies.
William rushed into the hangar past Ada, Sakuya, and an armored Alex. He climbed into the Liberator and did some preflight checks. Fuel, weapons, and ammo were all good.
He spotted Hayate's Hayabusa being prepared for launch. He wondered why she flew that lightly armed starfighter. Unlike Hayate's Hayabusa, William's Liberator traded raw speed for firepower and armor.
William now waited for the order to launch. He hoped that it would come soon.

Mizuki has finally reviewed the briefing materials. Neri was spot on and she had enjoyed the briefing and now was the implementation phase of the plan. She couldn’t help but remember what Jacob told her about plans. No plan survives first contact. So she brought a shotgun for the close quarters the ship they would be scuttling was sure to offer. She grabbed extra rounds and ensured she had extra magazines for her sidearm. She did bring her service rifle but doubted she would need it. She geared up and when she walked into the hanger bay she noted that the danger one and danger two were loading up in their fighters. That should be interesting.
She started a slow inspection of the cannons to ensure they wouldn’t do something contrary to their operation. She wondered where Ryuusei was at because he should be on this mission. He was field rated and Jacob had signed off on his final test. She wouldn’t worry about that right now. She had to finish inspections. She called up her sister’s personal channel.
“Hey Chi what else needs done?”

Chi figured her explanation was as good as any for their captain. He lack of response said as much. She had his trust when it came to making sure that her ship was in top shape. She never rushed anything when it came to flying or her hobbies.
She made a slow round in her ship when she heard her sister. She closed her eyes as she took in a deep breath. Her voice was monotone which was a little unusual for her. She hoped that Mizuki would not pick up on that. With her luck, she would and call her out on something.
"Just making sure the inside is running as smoothly as the outside. Can you double check some of the wear on the wings and hull? I don't want something to be more serious than just minor battle wounds. I should have most of the systems up and running by then."

Mizuki wasn’t that daft when her sister spoke. They had something that other siblings didn’t have but twins shared and it was unspoken. They knew each other better than most would ever get to know them. She was hiding something but now wasn’t the time to ask. She answered her though.
“As ordered. Checking the hull the and weapons. I trust you and your skill. I know that is something that most would not say.”
She smiled not realizing her sister couldn’t see it. It was ok as she checked energy scoring and noticed all of it was superficial and wouldn’t cause any issues.

Chi took in a deep breath as her sister paid her a compliment. It was something rare. She had a feeling that her sister knew, even though none of the others did. They might end up having a sisterly chat one of these days. Maybe when the war ended. They each had too much going on. There was little time for self pity. She could only hope the others would except this change in her.
"Thank you." The response was quiet though it held a lot of meaning to it.
She glanced down her checklist. She knew that the others would be ready to go very soon. She let herself be lost in the route. It gave her a sense of comfort. It was the small things as her face held a little smile.
Time flew by as everything seemed to be in order. She triple checked things as this mission was important and could go wrong on so many different levels. She wanted to be prepared for the worst.
"All preflight checks have been completed, captain. Troops are ready to board."

Sakuya nodded to Ada “Hey...” she smiled slightly “How did your night go?” She asked pointedly, knowing that the woman needed more of a direction in casual conversation. “Stay out with the boozehounds?” She snickered, knowing that Ada wasn’t the type.
Her head turned at the sound of Alex, to whom she laughed “A little in the rearend.” She chuckled as the suit. “Are we ready to go yeeeeeet?” She whined, overlyready to begin killing the bad boys.

"You know, the usual holiday aftermath. I got back to the lab, then sat around staring into space. I had no idea of how to make the Cataphract Armor any better. Then again, it was for the best I did not work on it while smashed." Ada conceded to Sakuya. If she had worked on it, it would probably be something that looked nothing like its original design. She needed to make a version that could be "mass-produced", but she did not just want to slap something together and call it armor because people's lives were at stake and none of them had the nanites she did to heal them.
When Alex asked if the suit made her look fat, Ada was not amused. She then realized that perhaps a bit of the bulk could be removed and still have it retain its protective properties. That depended on how well the Cataphract Armor prototype did today.
"I suppose that I could make a scaled-down model after today's trial run. The primary issue is the concern of whether cutting down on bulk would also sacrifice protection for the wearer." Ada replied to Alex, the joke soaring right over her head.

"I'm surprised someone hasn't put a Kick Me sign on the back of the armor. If someone did kick me, I probably couldn't even feel it. I don't know if that's the point or not." Alex said to Sakuya the eternally joyful one. She tended to get excited whenever it was time to shoot something. Alex could not blame her.
Alex whistled as the point of her joke sailed right over Ada's scientific head. The princess of Mercury had missed the point by a country mile or two. It was to be expected when dealing with someone like Ada Mizuno, the resident labrat and techie of Dark Echoes.
"Listen, sweetie. We've really gotta work on your sense of humor." Alex said to the medic, expecting her comment to fly right over Ada's head again. The black-haired girl tended to miss social cues unless they slapped her right in the face. Even then she might still miss them because Ada was... well, Ada.
